ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 A driver was placed in handcuffs last month after she was caught speeding due to an upset stomach, according to the Orlando Police Department.<\/p>\n

Police released body-camera footage of the encounter from last month, which shows the encounter on the highway.<\/p>\n

The video reveals that the driver \u2014 whose face is obscured \u2014 had been speeding at 136 mph.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what seems to be the hurry?\u201d the officer asks.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy stomach really hurts,\u201d the driver answers.<\/p>\n

Last year, a new law (HB 351) went into effect, which establishes \u201cdangerous excessive speeding<\/a>\u201d as a criminal offense in Florida. <\/p>\n

It refers to situations where drivers:<\/p>\n

Go at least 50 mph over the speed limit<\/p>\n

Speed at 100 mph or more in a way that threatens the people or property around them<\/p>\n

While reckless driving is already a crime in the state of Florida, courts have already held that simply speeding too much doesn\u2019t necessarily count.<\/p>\n

In addition, speeding itself is generally considered a noncriminal traffic infraction, punished primarily with fines.<\/p>\n

As a result, HB 351 will finally make it so that excessive speeding is an arrestable offense. This is in addition to any applicable fines for speeding.<\/p>\n

Under this law, someone who commits \u201cdangerous excessive speeding\u201d can be punished as follows:<\/p>\n

Upon a first conviction<\/p>\n

Up to 30 days in jail;<\/p>\n

A fine of $500; or<\/p>\n

Both<\/p>\n

Upon subsequent convictions<\/p>\n

Up to 90 days in jail;<\/p>\n

A fine of $1,000;<\/p>\n

Both<\/p>\n

Upon subsequent convictions\u00a0within five years<\/p>\n
