He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible, Igor left Russia for America with his “folk ’n’ roll” band Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock and roll. Igor and his Russian friends became The Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. The 29-year-old served in the U.S. Navy for eight years. He enlisted at 17, following a family tradition that has instilled a sense of honor and humility that is clear in his music. His success is found in his raspy voice, a mix of classic folk melody and outlaw country with a raw edge that cuts to the bone.

Millions have connected to the tender, sincere songs found on both Bryan’s 2019 debut album “DeAnn” — dedicated to his late mother — and his 2020 follow-up, “Elisabeth,” an ode to those he loves.

In January, Bryan released his sixth studio album, “With Heaven on Top.”

Hard Rock Event Center

Charley Crockett

TAMPA — Country star Charley Crockett will perform on Wednesday, March 11, 8 p.m., in the Hard Rock Event Center at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 5223 Orient Road, Tampa.

Tickets start at $75. Instead, the Grammy Award-nominated Texas-born maverick defied the odds at every turn, tapping into a rebellious strain of country, rising from an open guitar case on a Louisiana sidewalk to selling out some of the world’s most renowned venues. Crockett has paved a singular path out of Texas, taking his home state wherever he goes and bringing his signature “Gulf & Western” sound to the world.

Crockett and his music have received praise from The New Yorker, The New York Times, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Variety, and garnered hundreds of millions of streams. He picked up his first Grammy nod earlier this year, and in the last year alone, he notably headlined Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado, twice, played the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, and sold out two nights at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Speaking to his impact, CBS Mornings chronicled his journey, and he’s sat down for interviews on The Daily Show and most recently The Joe Rogan Experience.

Brass Mug

Burning Witches

TAMPA — Swiss heavy/power metal band Burning Witches will perform on Sunday, March 15, 6:30 p.m., at the Brass Mug, 1450 Skipper Road, Tampa.

Tickets start at $25.
