MAITLAND, Fla. \u2014 For the fifth\u00a0time, the Maitland Art Center is showing off its campus in ways that are lit, \u201csurreal\u201d and historic.<\/p>\n
The Maitland Art Party<\/a> is a gala experience, happening one night only \u2014 Saturday, March 7, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It gives you and your family access to a national historic landmark.
\nThe Maitland Art Center is one of the few examples of fantasy, or whimsical, architecture remaining in the Southeast, so you can anticipate anything but the conventional at the four-hour event.
\n\u201cAnything that\u2019s unexpected or bizarre,\u201d said Danielle Thomas, the Maitland Art & History Museums’ executive director. \u201cA lot of surrealist artists use lobsters or clocks, or eyeballs as imagery, or anything \u2014 just unexpected.\u201d
\nThe campus has a few dozen buildings connected by a maze of courtyards, hidden gardens and water features.
\nThe Maitland Art Party is a nighttime event that\u2019s part of the Maitland Art & History Museums’<\/a> fifth\u00a0annual throw down.
