{"id":181808,"date":"2026-03-07T07:11:34","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T07:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/181808\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T07:11:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T07:11:34","slug":"murray-hill-residents-frustrated-over-trash-action-news-jax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/181808\/","title":{"rendered":"Murray Hill residents frustrated over trash \u2013 Action News Jax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 People living in one Murray Hill neighborhood are frustrated about piles of trash being left out on one property. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not appealing to the eyes at all,\u201d Blake Louis, who lives in Murray Hill, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Louis has lived in Murray Hill for a few years now. He lives a few blocks over from the corner lot on Melba Street &#8211; a lot that he says has been covered with trash for years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not too safe, though, with all this trash,\u201d Louis said. \u201cPests that can be brought in \u2026 from all this trash overflow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">There is no house on that lot. There is also no fence separating the property behind it, which is 620 Chestnut Street. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" target=\"_blank\">&gt;&gt;&gt; STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE &lt;&lt;&lt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Louis began filing complaints with the city of Jacksonville in 2024 for the address 620 Chestnut Street. His most recent complaint was this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Louis says that three months ago, a dumpster was placed out on the lot for the trash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">He says he saw the trash being pulled out of the house at 620 Chestnut Street and placed in the dumpster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">But in the last few weeks, he says that the dumpster \u2013 and just the dumpster &#8211; was picked up by someone, while the trash was left behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Robert Jeffers works across the street and watched the whole thing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cWe physically watched them dump the trash out of the dumpster back onto the lawn and leave,\u201d Jeffers said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Action News Jax went on the city of Jacksonville\u2019s property appraiser website and found out that the address for the property where the trash was dumped is technically 617 Melba Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">[DOWNLOAD: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/mobile-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">We tried calling the owner of that lot, but we never heard back. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">We also tried reaching out to who we thought was the owner of the house on Chestnut Street, but we had no luck there either. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">We reached out to the city about this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">You can read their statement from the Municipal Code Compliance Division below:<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cThe Municipal Code Compliance Division has received several complaints regarding the property located at 620 Chestnut St., and only one complaint related to 617 Melba St. within the last two years. We only recently received a request in February of 2026 concerning 617 Melba St., which has not yet been released to a contractor, nor has the City placed any dumpsters on that vacant lot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The property located at 620 Chestnut St. had been undergoing preparations for release to a site clearance contractor; however, that process was halted after the ownership changed and the property was placed under an estate following the original citation issued in 2025.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">[SIGN UP: <a href=\"https:\/\/membercenter.actionnewsjax.com\/newsletters\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Action News Jax also spoke with Councilman Jimmy Peluso, who represents this district. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">He came out to the property and met with Action News Jax\u2019s Madison Foglio. Councilman Peluso is on active duty with the U.S. Navy Reserves, so he couldn\u2019t go on camera in uniform.
