JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Despite lightning\u00a0shortening Sunday’s Jacksonville Spring Break Challenge final game, it didn’t stop the Dolphins from collecting 12 runs in a 12-7 win over Brown.<\/p>\n
The Dolphins swept Brown in back-to-back games, finishing tournament play 4-1 and ending the non-conference slate with a 15-11 record. Jacksonville now turns its attention to the ASUN slate of games, starting the conference season off with a tilt in Carrollton, Ga. against West Georgia starting next weekend.<\/p>\n
Things were knotted at 0-0 through two innings Sunday morning before a big third inning blew the game wide open. Jacksonville notched six runs via RBI singles from Alison Carter<\/a> and Madisyn Weathers<\/a>. Emma Mansfield<\/a> hit a 2-RBI double as well before Lindsey Chadwick<\/a> took the skin off a ball for a two-run homer to left field.<\/p>\n Brown came back with a six-run inning of its own in the fifth to tie the game up.<\/p>\n JU responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame, followed by a run in the sixth by the Bears and three more runs from the home team in bottom of the sixth \u2013 the game’s final inning.<\/p>\n Mansfield went a perfect 4-4 on the day with three RBIs, tied for the team lead. Vic Brunette<\/a> also tallied three RBIs, going 2-3 at the plate. The big bat of Jaida Thomas<\/a> delivered once again during the weekend tournament, with a 3-4 showing at the plate and two RBIs herself.<\/p>\n In total, Jacksonville outhit Brown 15-9. It was the highest number of hits in a single game for JU this season, and highest total RBIs in one game. JU’s 12 runs were its second double-digit scoring output thus far.<\/p>\n Taking to the circle, Jacy Harrelson<\/a> picked up the win (8-5) after four innings pitched and three Ks.\u00a0<\/p>\n At the plate before conference play begins, JU has four hitters with over 20 hits this season in Thomas (team high 27), Sarah Beth Brake<\/a> (24), Mansfield (24) and Kate Linkletter<\/a> (23). Thomas added another triple against Brown, moving her up to four on the team and tops on the squad. Chadwick’s homer moved her to three this season, tied for second with Linkletter, behind just Brake’s six.<\/p>\n As for the pitchers, Harrelson leads the team with a 3.23 ERA and 53 Ks. Harrelson’s strikeout number has her second overall across the ASUN landscape.\u00a0<\/p>\n Jacksonville next travels to West Georgia for three games before a trio of games across town at UNF, starting March 19. The next time the ‘Phins are at home is against the West Georgia Wolves, starting Saturday March 28.
