The Sanibel Public Library District is accepting applications to fill two vacant seats.<\/p>\n
Commissioner Melanie Congress, who held Seat 3, submitted her resignation effective Jan. 23, and Vice Chair Nicole Decker-McHale, who held Seat 6, submitted her resignation effective Feb. 19.<\/p>\n
The appointees will serve until the General Election this year.<\/p>\n
The district is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners, elected by the voters of Sanibel for four-year terms. The board sets the millage rate, prepares, considers and adopts a budget, sets policy, and employs an executive director to be the administrator and manager of the Sanibel library.<\/p>\n
When vacancies occur, the board may appoint a qualified person to fill the seat until the next General Election, at which time an election shall be held to fill the vacancy for the remaining term, if any.<\/p>\n
Interested applicants must be a Sanibel resident to qualify. A financial disclosure statement must be filed within 30 days of assuming a seat, when filing to run for a seat and annually while seated.<\/p>\n

\u2013 A candidate\u2019s knowledge of the Sanibel Public Library District<\/p>\n
\u2013 A candidate\u2019s commitment to library advocacy<\/p>\n
\u2013 A candidate\u2019s ability to be present at meetings in person<\/p>\n
The board meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. Additional meetings or workshops may be scheduled as needed. The board operates under the Sunshine Law. All discussion and deliberation must take place at a publicly advertised meeting.<\/p>\n
