HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. \u2014 Residents in a Riverview neighborhood say their street has become dangerous as drivers look to avoid traffic on U.S. 301.<\/p>\n

Part of the issue is an ongoing Florida Department of Transportation project on U.S. 301 and Symmes Road to replace the concrete there<\/p>\n

Warren Oaks Place is a residential street that runs along U.S. 301. Neighbors say drivers will often use their street to avoid the red light and traffic at U.S. 301 and Symmes Road.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe traffic is beyond normal community neighborhood traffic,\u201d said Wendy Larkin.<\/p>\n

Larkin has lived in the neighborhood for years. But lately, she says, the traffic is getting worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it\u2019s unbearable. Now we are worried about our safety. Safety of our children. Safety of our pets,\u201d Larkin said.<\/p>\n

Neighbor Sonia Deutsch says she has seen several crashes on the street. And nearly every day, she says that she\u2019ll see long lines of cars, especially at rush hour.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I try to get out from my driveway, people are so aggressive and they cut me off. They won\u2019t let me get out of my driveway,\u201d Deutsch said.<\/p>\n

Part of the issue is an ongoing Florida Department of Transportation project on U.S. 301 and Symmes Road<\/a> to replace the concrete there. That is expected to be done early next year.<\/p>\n

But those closures have sent more traffic onto smaller neighborhood streets, like Warren Oaks Place. The neighbors would like to see something done to prevent a bigger problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe as a physician, I am so afraid of the safety our people,\u201d Deutsch said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m a nurse practitioner. I completely agree. Accidents and\/or death would be the worst-case scenario,\u201d Larkin said.<\/p>\n

Spectrum Bay News 9 Real-Time Traffic Expert Tim Wronka reached out to Hillsborough County about this. Officials say their resolution team would be willing to work with residents to see if there are any design changes that might help.<\/p>\n
