TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Several business organizations are endorsing the transfer of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to FSU ahead of the final vote on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce expressed its endorsement in a letter to the City of Tallahassee Commissioners, saying the members support a yes vote.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe TMH-FSU Health partnership can improve health outcomes, increase research opportunities, and grow jobs to benefit our region,\u201d the Chamber wrote. <\/p>\n
The letter goes on to say the Chamber, both its members and leadership, believe the proposed transfer of assets agreement is fair to both sides.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy continuing to prioritize combining resources and expertise, they will efficiently address community health needs, improve patient outcomes, reach underserved residents, and enhance research opportunities,\u201d the Chamber said. <\/p>\n
The Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Advocates (NEBA) also addressed commissioners, encouraging the transfer and saying FSU Health will boost the economy. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe proposed partnership will bring hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment into our local healthcare infrastructure, expand specialized medical services, and attract research funding and talent to Tallahassee,\u201d NEBA wrote in a letter to the commission.<\/p>\n
The letter continues, saying this agreement will create an environment businesses want to locate to and grow in. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis proposal represents a rare alignment between healthcare advancement, economic development, and community impact,\u201d the letter reads.<\/p>\n

Grow Tallahassee, a non-profit aimed at promoting economic development in the area, has previously shared support for FSU Health. The group issued a statement praising both the Chamber and NEBA\u2019s endorsement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are encouraged to see the business community coming together in support of job creation, economic development, and improving the overall standard of living in our community,\u201d Grow Tallahassee\u2019s statement read.<\/p>\n
These endorsements come just before the final public hearing and City Commission vote. Wednesday, commissioners will take final action on the transfer of assets to create FSU Health. <\/p>\n
The transfer,<\/a> totaling $1.7 billion, would see FSU pay $109 million over 30 years, and an additional $250 million for property upgrades and academic operations. Notably, the agreement states that FSU\u2019s obligation to pay is contingent upon state funding. <\/p>\n While several organizations are in favor of the transfer, others have voiced their opposition. <\/p>\n The Tallahassee branch of the NAACP held a press conference last week where former mayor Jack McClean said the agreement does not reflect the people\u2019s interests. <\/a><\/p>\n Tallahassee ALERT has also raised concerns, citing what one lawyer calls an \u201cunusual\u201d provision <\/a>in the transfer agreement.
