{"id":186407,"date":"2026-03-10T23:06:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T23:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/186407\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T23:06:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T23:06:12","slug":"brittany-lyssy-becomes-third-candidate-to-seek-stacy-hahns-hillsborough-school-board-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/186407\/","title":{"rendered":"Brittany Lyssy becomes third candidate to seek Stacy Hahn\u2019s Hillsborough School Board seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A third candidate has filed to run for Hillsborough County School Board, District 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Brittany Lyssy, a Hillsborough County mother, lawyer and public policy professional, is running to succeed incumbent Stacy Hahn, who is leaving office to <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/774874-stacy-hahn-files-to-challenge-gop-incumbent-donna-cameron-cepeda-in-hillsborough-commission-race\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">run for Hillsborough County Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyssy announced her campaign Tuesday, pledging a strong commitment to students, families, educators and taxpayers, while vowing to strengthen academic excellence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m running for School Board because I\u2019m a mom, first and foremost,\u201d Lyssy said. \u201cThe decisions made by the School Board today will shape the classrooms my children and thousands of others will sit in tomorrow. Our families deserve School Board leadership that keeps the focus where it belongs: on learning, strong literacy and academic fundamentals, and schools that work with parents to help every child succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyssy joins Daniela Simic and Chris Taylor, both of whom filed to run last month, in vying for the seat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dcnonline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-760546 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DCN-Florida-Politics-728x90-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyssy is a University of Florida graduate and Stetson University College of Law alumna. She currently works as a Tampa lawyer and serves on the City of Tampa Citizens Advisory Budget and Finance Committee, where she reviews fiscal issues and long-term financial planning for the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her legal career has also given her some experience at the crossroads of education policy, through work as staff counsel and communications director for the Leadership Institute\u2019s School Board Leaders Program where she worked with School Board members nationwide on policy analysis, ethics and governance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyssy is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Policy at Liberty University, a private evangelical Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia, though she lives in Hillsborough County with her husband,\u00a0Doug, and their children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyssy is a past President of the Tampa Bay Young Republicans club, though the School Board race is nonpartisan. She also previously worked as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/brittany-lyssy-648b4411a\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a campaign coordinator<\/a> for Layla Collins\u2018 failed 2024 bid against incumbent Nadia Combs. Collins is the wife of Lt. Gov. Jay Collins and is now a member of the Florida Board of Education <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/747001-gov-desantis-chooses-layla-collins-for-board-of-education\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">appointed<\/a> by Gov. Ron DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyssy\u2019s campaign platform includes fiscal accountability and responsible budgeting, while prioritizing classrooms, supporting teachers, strengthening literacy, improving parental involvement and ensuring safe schools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hklaw.com\/en\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-653648\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Influence_FGAT_Banner_728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m running to bring a parent\u2019s perspective, a policy professional\u2019s discipline, and a commitment to accountability to the school board,\u201d Lyssy said. \u201cI\u2019m ready to do the work, ask the hard questions, and make decisions that put students first every time.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A third candidate has filed to run for Hillsborough County School Board, District 2.
