Over the weekend, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Lotus joined forces for a three-show coheadline run in Florida, taking the stage for alternating sets at Sanford, Fla.\u2019s Tuffy\u2019s Bottle Shop, St. Petersburg, Fla.\u2019s Jannus Live and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.\u2019s Culture Room from March 6-8. To distinguish the special occasion, the Baltimore-based jam-funk quartet and longtime livetronica pioneers offered inventive setlists, and Pigeons amplified the evenings\u2019 excitement with two sit-ins from Lotus\u2019 Tim Palmieri.<\/p>\n
On Friday night, March 6, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong kicked off the triple-header with \u201cPorcupine,\u201d drawn from their third studio album Pizazz. After \u201cFortress,\u201d the group raced into a sprawling six-track medley, grounded in two sections of \u201cOcean Flows\u201d and featuring a cover of The Police\u2019s \u201cWalking On The Moon\u201d and their third treatment to date of the new original \u201cPolaroid,\u201d debuted in December during their Festival of Melting Lights<\/a> holiday series at The Capitol Theatre. To close out the main portion of their performance, the quartet welcomed Palmieri to add lead guitar to a ripping cover of Blue \u00d6yster Cult\u2019s \u201cGodzilla,\u201d then returned for an encore of \u201cHenrietta\u201d and \u201cLive It Up.\u201d<\/p>\n After a night with no impromptu collaboration, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong began their third and final show in the series on Sunday night with \u201cGo with It\u201d another original that only recently entered their repertoire. From the in-your-face funk of the Pizazz cut \u201cSomethin\u2019 for Ya,\u201d the band merged into a roaring rendition of \u201cFeed the Fire,\u201d the title track from their 2025 studio album. The fan-favorite singalong of \u201cWater\u201d landed at the mid-set and flowed into \u201cMy Own Way,\u201d then other core cuts like \u201cOffshoot\u201d and Julia\u201d built to a smashing set closer of \u201cKing Kong.\u201d Pigeons began their encore with \u201cDawn of a New Day,\u201d then capped off the co-headline run by hosting Palmieri on a hypnotic cover of The Who\u2019s \u201cEminence Front.\u201d<\/p>\n Pigeons Playing Ping Pong\u2019s spring tour continues tonight with a stand at Birmingham, Ala.\u2019s Workplay Theatre.
