CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A woman is under arrest after deputies say she confessed to killing her roommate in a quiet, rural Charlotte County neighborhood. <\/p>\n

The Charlotte County Sheriff\u2019s Office <\/a>is investigating the homicide at a home on Gewant Boulevard in the Charlotte Ranchettes. Neighbors say the victim was a well-loved older man, Paul De Wayne Bradley, 76, known for his kindness and quirky charm.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office said that Shannon R. Giblin, 48, was arrested after confessing to Bradley’s death, after the victim’s vehicle was missing from the driveway, and through investigative measures, detectives discovered that it had been driven to Sarasota County. This information was shared with members of the Sarasota County Sheriff\u2019s Office, who located the vehicle in their jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

A woman named Shannon R. Giblin was arrested Sunday in a rural Charlotte Ranchettes neighborhood in Charlotte County after deputies say she confessed to killing her 76\u2011year\u2011old roommate, Paul De Wayne Bradley, allegedly amid tensions over her imminent eviction, prompting a multi\u2011agency investigation that involved tracking the victim\u2019s missing vehicle to Sarasota County. Since crime scene tape was first put up on Sunday, a steady stream of neighbors has been driving by the home, stunned and heartbroken. Many believed early on that Bradley, a longtime resident, described as a \u201csweet old man,\u201d died. <\/p>\n

One neighbor, Jody Scharping, recalled how the man would ride around on his scooter and never hesitated to look after the people around him. <\/p>\n

“He [Bradley] came over one day to talk to me about my son, because he was mentoring him for a while, and he was in his underwear on his scooter, and it reminded me of my dad,\u201d she said. \u201cJust that old man that isn\u2019t going to hurt nobody.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scharping said she knew something was seriously wrong on Sunday night when she returned from the grocery store and saw fire trucks and deputies swarming the street. <\/p>\n

\u201cAt first I thought maybe something had happened with Paul because he has health issues,\u201d she said. \u201cThen I saw one of the neighbors crying, and that\u2019s when I realized something was really wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neighbors said they later learned the man had been found dead. He lived in the home with his wife until she passed away a few years ago. In recent months, neighbors said he had hired a woman to live with him and help around the property. <\/p>\n

“From my understanding, things weren\u2019t going really well,\u201d Scharping said. \u201cBut he was gonna, I guess, evict her that day, and then that happened, so I’m assuming something didn’t go right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deputies worked throughout the morning and afternoon Monday, taking photos and collecting evidence from both inside the home and a nearby storage structure. A body was removed from the home around 8 a.m. and taken away in a medical examiner\u2019s van. At one point, investigators removed a wheelchair from the residence. Detectives also asked neighbors for home-security footage recorded between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n

Residents around the block described the man as the friendliest neighbor anyone could have asked for, and many said they felt uneasy not knowing exactly what happened. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey’re not telling us anything and if they’re looking for anyone loose,\u201d one neighbor said. Another resident added that people naturally worry when a large police presence shows up on their street. \u201cWhen you see something like that, you instantly want to know what’s going on, if there’s something you need to do to protect your family, friends, or neighbors with.
