Tampa, FL – Tampa city officials have approved plans for a new 250-foot observation wheel called Tampa WOW, short for Wheel Over Water, to be built along the downtown waterfront. <\/p>\n
The privately funded project, estimated to cost $20 million, is designed to give visitors a panoramic view of the city and surrounding bay area.<\/p>\n
According to city records, the Tampa City Council voted Thursday to approve the development plan submitted by local developer Tony Miller. <\/p>\n
The attraction will not use taxpayer funds and is being financed entirely through private investment. <\/p>\n
The proposed site is near the Florida Aquarium and the Tampa Convention Center, connecting with existing tourism destinations along the waterfront.<\/p>\n
The wheel will feature enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas and rides lasting approximately 20 to 30 minutes.<\/p>\n
Project planners said it is intended to serve both local residents and visitors, adding to the growing list of downtown attractions.<\/p>\n
Miller said construction is expected to begin in 2025, with an anticipated opening date in late 2026, pending final permitting and safety reviews.<\/p>\n
City officials have stated that the project aligns with Tampa\u2019s broader downtown development plans and tourism growth strategy.<\/p>\n
No public funds or incentives were allocated to the project, according to council records.<\/p>\n
