TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Over a hundred people gathered Saturday morning at the North Florida Fairgrounds for the fifth annual Tallahassee- Big Bend Walk for Multiple Sclerosis, an event aimed at raising awareness and funds for people living with the disease.<\/p>\n
Hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the walk brought together individuals, families and supporters from across the community.<\/p>\n
Multiple sclerosis, often called MS, is an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.<\/p>\n
Kimberly Rhodes attended the event with her daughters. She was diagnosed with MS in 2011 and said the support from the community is meaningful.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes are more difficult than others. Sometimes I\u2019m perfectly healthy, I\u2019m okay, I\u2019m able to walk, but it has been difficult at times,\u201d Rhodes said. \u201cFor the most part, I\u2019m still here. This is a great feeling to have multiple people come out not only with the symptoms or disease, but those who have supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event also featured vendors and health resources for attendees.<\/p>\n
MS ambassador and walk coordinator Natasha Acoff said the event is designed to increase awareness and encourage people to prioritize their health.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important that people know about MS because a lot of people don\u2019t know,\u201d Acoff said. \u201cWe just want to continue to bring awareness, visibility and raise funds and donations for our local efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Acoff said a local MS support group meets every second Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Domi Station.<\/p>\n
