\n\tAustin Butler<\/a> is in early talks to star in Joseph Kosinski<\/a>\u2018s \u201cMiami Vice<\/a>\u201d reboot for Universal Pictures.<\/p>\n

\n\tIf the deals ultimately close, Butler would play James \u201cSonny\u201d Crockett opposite Michael B. Jordan<\/a> as Ricardo \u201cRico\u201d Tubbs, the suave South Florida detectives portrayed by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the classic \u201980s TV series. (Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx played the roles in the first big-screen adaptation, 2006\u2019s \u201cMiami Vice,\u201d directed by Michael Mann.)<\/p>\n

\n\tButler soared to the top of Hollywood\u2019s leading man list after playing rock and roll legend Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann\u2019s \u201cElvis,\u201d which earned him a Golden Globe and BAFTA award, as well as an Oscar nomination for best actor. Butler began his career on teen shows like \u201cZoey 101,\u201d \u201cSwitched at Birth\u201d and \u201cThe Carrie Diaries,\u201d then made his Broadway debut in the revival of \u201cThe Iceman Cometh,\u201d and landed his big-screen breakout role in Quentin Tarantino\u2019s \u201cOnce Upon a Time\u2026 in Hollywood.\u201d With projects like \u201cDune: Part Two,\u201d where he played the sociopathic villain Feyd-Rautha, and, most recently, Darren Aronofsky\u2019s crime thriller \u201cCaught Stealing\u201d on his r\u00e9sum\u00e9, Butler has become one of the industry\u2019s most versatile stars.<\/p>\n

\n\tKosinski, whose recent forays into existing IP with \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d and \u201cF1: The Movie\u201d proved both innovative and lucrative, now explores the \u201cglamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami\u201d with a reboot of \u201cMiami Vice.\u201d The film, an official logline explains, is \u201cinspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.\u201d Production on the project, which will be filmed for Imax, is expected to begin next year. \u201cMiami Vice\u201d is dated for Aug. 6, 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tDylan Clark and Kosinski serve as producers, while Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy penned the script, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich from the series executive produced by Yerkovich and Mann.<\/p>\n
