{"id":192623,"date":"2026-03-15T17:47:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-15T17:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/192623\/"},"modified":"2026-03-15T17:47:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T17:47:12","slug":"fmea-event-sees-florida-electrical-linemen-square-off-in-competition-in-tallahassee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/192623\/","title":{"rendered":"FMEA event sees Florida electrical linemen square off in competition in Tallahassee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Linemen from the host city of Tallahassee claimed the top honors. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Electric lineworkers from across the state converged on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flpublicpower.com\/events\/2026-florida-lineman-competition\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">25th Annual Florida Lineman Competition<\/a> Saturday in Tallahassee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Florida Municipal Electric Association (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flpublicpower.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">FMEA)<\/a> event drew workers from 13 electrical utilities who took part in the event. That included 156 lineworkers \u2014 72 apprentices and 84 journeymen \u2014 across 26 teams that were assessed by 58 judges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the competition involved demonstrations such as replacing fuses, changing fiberglass links, transferring equipment from pole to pole and simulated rescues. Competitors earned points for completing the tasks as quickly as possible and lost points if safety standards and proper work practices were not followed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were two different categories of competitors. Journeyman teams, which included at least one lineworker who has been in the industry for five years or more, were made up of three lineworkers. Apprentices, or lineworkers in training, competed individually.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis year marked the 25th anniversary of the Florida Lineman Competition and we were thrilled to bring together so many representatives from our public power communities to take part in this milestone event. Yesterday\u2019s winners embodied the exceptional skill, precision and professionalism that define linework,\u201d said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. \u201cThank you to all who participated in the competition and a huge congratulations to our winners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bipc.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-726047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FLGR-Ad-728x90-RESULTS-Set-1-e1741815738516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The host city of Tallahassee fared well and produced the top winners in the FMEA competition.\u00a0 The 2026 Overall Journeyman Team Winners\u2019 Cup was won by Lance Rivenbark, Jordan Reddick and Jason Smith of the city of Tallahassee.
