Tampa Bay Tech, <\/a>will take place April 8-10 across the bay area. Organizers describe it not as a traditional conference, but as a decentralized, community-driven effort to highlight the region\u2019s growing technology sector.<\/p>\nRather than gathering attendees in one venue, companies, universities, investors and community groups will host their own events across the region during the three-day period.<\/p>\n
Programming is expected to include discussions and gatherings focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech, climate technology, health innovation and venture-backed startups, along with founder roundtables, networking events and investor discussions.<\/p>\n
Michael Hall, a founding board member of Tampa Bay Tech Week, said the goal is to create something more lasting than a single industry gathering.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen people hear \u2018tech week,\u2019 they picture a three-day conference with a keynote and a happy hour,\u201d Hall said. \u201cThat\u2019s not what we\u2019re building. Tampa Bay Tech Week is being designed as connective infrastructure, the kind that actually holds an ecosystem together beyond the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen those connections happen, they don\u2019t end when the event does,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey turn into partnerships, funding relationships, collaborations and opportunities that ripple through the region for years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The initiative is being organized through HyLo Innovation, an ecosystem development effort supported by W3RTech and South Box Capital and is meant to serve as an entry point for a broader effort to strengthen the region\u2019s innovation economy.<\/p>\n
Organizers say Tampa Bay\u2019s tech sector has reached a new stage of growth in recent years, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and fintech.<\/p>\n
\u201cA few years ago people were asking whether Tampa Bay was a real tech market,\u201d Hall said. \u201cNow the question is how to scale what\u2019s already here.\u201d<\/p>\n
He pointed to increased collaboration between startups, universities and established companies as a sign the region\u2019s ecosystem is beginning to mature.<\/p>\n
(Examples would be the University of South Florida\u2019s high rank as a premier research institute, and the Innovation District\u2019s Maritime Defense and Technology hub as latent potential to capitalize.)<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not just startups anymore. It\u2019s an actual ecosystem with multiple layers operating at once.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event\u2019s \u201cdecentralized\u201d format was chosen intentionally to reflect the geographic spread of innovation across the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you put everything on one stage you control the narrative but you limit the participation,\u201d Hall told the Catalyst. \u201cCompanies, coworking spaces, investors and universities each bring their own networks and perspectives. That\u2019s what makes the ecosystem visible in a way a single venue never could.\u201d<\/p>\n
That approach also reflects the broader Tampa Bay region, which includes innovation clusters across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties rather than a single technology district.<\/p>\n
The long-term goal is to strengthen Tampa Bay\u2019s reputation as a place where technology companies can start and scale.<\/p>\n
\u201cTampa Bay needs to be known, unambiguously, as a place where you can build a serious technology company,\u201d Hall said. \u201cNot just a place with good weather and no state income tax, but a place with real infrastructure, real capital relationships and real community.\u201d<\/p>\n
