Police said Powell shot and killed her in a vacant apartment and found his DNA inside the home.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Daneshia-Heller.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\"Daneshia Heller\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Daneshia Heller<\/p>\n<p>At the time, police wanted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/police-give-update-on-fort-lauderdale-serial-killer-rumors\/3772160\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">clear up internet rumors<\/a> about a possible serial killer in the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know there&#8217;s some stuff on social media, I&#8217;ll start off by saying we do not have a serial killer in Fort Lauderdale,\u201d Fort Lauderdale Police Homicide Sgt. Don Geiger told reporters at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Police even posted a video on social media saying they were not searching for a serial killer.<\/p>\n<p>Att first, the victim did not want to cooperate or give information, which delayed detectives&#8217; investigation, police said.<\/p>\n<p>According to an arrest report, detectives watched surveillance video showing Powell and Heller walk inside the apartment, but she never left.
