223 canceled flights<\/a> and 400 delays, according to FlightAware. At Miami International Airport, there were over 280 cancellations and 300 delays.<\/p>\n\u201cScheduled to fly back today to Worcester, Massachusetts, and all because of the weather, they canceled the flight,\u201d said passenger Dave Whyman.<\/p>\n
For passenger Tiffany Cole, her flight was canceled as she tried to get back home to Michigan.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanna make it back home to my kids and granddaughter, you know what I\u2019m saying? I can deal with it, but I don\u2019t want to be here for days,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s not stressful, but when you\u2019re ready to go home, you\u2019re ready to go home.\u201d<\/p>\n
The airport chaos is also being affected by a partial government shutdown that has caused staff shortages at the Transportation Security Administration, increasing lines at airports, including at FLL.<\/p>\n
\u201cCanceled, got delayed twice. We were hoping to get out of here tonight, but the earliest flight now is Thursday,\u201d said traveler Alec Fisher, who is trying to head back to Minnesota. \u201cWe changed our flights to Thursday, so hopefully those actually go this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fisher said he\u2019s treating this delay as an extended vacation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got like 12 inches of snow, it\u2019s horrible. I do not want to go back to it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nationwide, the Midwest was struck by blizzard conditions, increasing travel issues across the United States.<\/p>\n
\u201cActually, I had like three canceled flights, and so, now I just rebooked on United [Airlines],\u201d said Stephanie Schlepp, a traveler at Chicago O\u2019Hare International Airport.<\/p>\n
Up to 30 inches of snow are expected in Wisconsin, with powerful winds creating dangerous whiteouts in other states.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe actually ended up lost because we couldn\u2019t see the road signs,\u201d said Christopher Hebert, a Green Bay resident.<\/p>\n
This left millions of Americans in the path of severe weather as passengers attempted to get back home.<\/p>\n
\u201cOurs got canceled, and we\u2019re trying to make it back before our jobs cancel us,\u201d said passenger Justin Vlez.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust be patient, everybody\u2019s being very courteous, just keep in mind that it\u2019s not their fault, it\u2019s Mother Nature, and what can we do?\u201d said Cole.<\/p>\n
Across the United States, more than 4,000 flights were canceled, and 10,000 flights were delayed as of Monday evening, according to FlightAware.<\/p>\n
