{"id":196891,"date":"2026-03-18T20:56:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T20:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/196891\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T20:56:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T20:56:11","slug":"mia-fll-see-fewer-cancelled-flights-disruption-on-wednesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/196891\/","title":{"rendered":"MIA, FLL see fewer cancelled flights, disruption on Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_1769.jpeg\"   width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" title=\"TSA Checkpoint 2 at Miami International Airport on March 18, 2026\" alt=\"TSA Checkpoint 2 at Miami International Airport on March 18, 2026\"\/><\/p>\n<p>        TSA Checkpoint 2 at Miami International Airport on March 18, 2026<\/p>\n<p>                Vinod Sreeharsha<\/p>\n<p>Operations began to return to normal on Wednesday at the two largest airports in South Florida after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/living\/travel\/article315078161.html\">several days of cancellations, delays and long security lines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By late morning, Miami International Airport had just 4 cancellations \u2014 one arrival and three departures \u2014 due to inclement weather on the east coast, Greg Chin, communications director for Miami-Dade Aviation Department, told the Miami Herald.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Broward also made progress, cancelling just 17 flights on Wednesday, as of 1 p.m., according to data analytics firm FlightAware.<\/p>\n<p>There were still delays on Wednesday: MIA had 167 total delays as of about 1 p.m.; FLL had 124, according to FlightAware.<\/p>\n<p>But those numbers were a big improvement from Monday when Miami International Airport had at least 270 delays and 267 cancellations and Fort Lauderdale\u2019s airport had at least 370 delays and 198 cancellations. The travel hassles were related to the influx of travelers due to Spring Break, storms hitting the east coast and TSA workers once again confronting working without pay.<\/p>\n<p>Since March 13, TSA workers have not been receiving pay due to the partial government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday morning the road leading to the North Terminal at MIA was clear with cars flowing briskly. TSA checkpoints 1 through 3 were moving steadily with minimal delays and lines of about 15 to 75 people.<\/p>\n<p>The TSA checkpoint that\u2019s used for international arriving passengers who have connections was available to all travelers on Wednesday. It\u2019s accessible via an entrance near Door 7.<\/p>\n<p>TSA checkpoint 4 has been shut since Monday due to TSA staffing issues, said Chin. That\u2019s \u201cso that TSA staffing can be more evenly distributed to the other busier checkpoints,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Arlene Satchell, a Fort Lauderdale airport spokesperson, told the Herald that they weren\u2019t experiencing TSA staffing issues and that any longer than normal lines at TSA stemmed from busy spring travel or peak departure times.
