MIAMI \u2014 Nonprofit organization FilmGate is helping to support independent media creators in the area.<\/p>\n
Their festival FilmGate Interactive is back for its 12th edition, kicking off at the Frost Museum of Science in Miami, showcasing how new technology influences the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want Miami to be the media center of the world,\u201d said FilmGate Executive Director Diliana Alexander. \u201cTo be an experimentation, new ways to tell stories.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s an ambitious goal.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel that Miami\u2019s audience has always been open,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s that willingness that has led FilmGate to branch out and welcome independent artists from around the globe to the Magic City.<\/p>\n
Wednesday night, two Taiwanese films premiered inside the museum\u2019s planetarium. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re combining different technique into filmmaking now a days, like AR, VR, and different formats,\u201d said Alexander. \u201cI think in modern days, this technology becomes a tool.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event allows talent and producers to meet, mingle and collaborate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have always focused on emerging talent,\u201d Alexander said. \u201cWe want to empower this talent to be able to be a successful. We say you\u2019re not just a filmmaker. I\u2019ll see your creative business.\u201d<\/p>\n
From new ventures like a completely AI-generated music video to the lesser-known indie projects, it\u2019s an effort to put Florida, more specifically Miami, back on filmmaking map.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully we\u2019re going to have a new governor who is going to have tax incentives back like the other states around us,\u201d said Alexander. \u201cHopefully we\u2019re making a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
