{"id":198098,"date":"2026-03-19T18:26:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T18:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/198098\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T18:26:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T18:26:11","slug":"rick-baker-backs-nancy-bostock-for-pinellas-school-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/198098\/","title":{"rendered":"Rick Baker backs Nancy Bostock for Pinellas School Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker is throwing his weight behind former Pinellas County School Board member Nancy Bostock in her bid to return to the office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bostock is seeking the District 6 seat, currently held by Stephanie Meyer, who has also endorsed Bostock as her successor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is often said that our children are the future. I believe that completely, and I am comfortable with trusting that future to Nancy Bostock,\u201d Baker said. \u201cShe is a great public servant, and I am honored to endorse her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Baker served as St. Pete Mayor from 2001 and 2010. He sought office again in 2017, but lost in a runoff election to now-former Mayor Rick Kriseman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bostock called the former Mayor\u2019s support an honor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampaelectric.com\/reliability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-717315 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/teco-728x90-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRick has long been a thoughtful leader who understands how important strong schools are to the success of our community and our economy,\u201d Bostock said. \u201cWe know that our children are our future and that our schools must prepare them to be successful by always putting their interests first. As your next School Board member, I will make each decision with this as my focus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bostock previously served on the School Board from 1998 until 2008, then was elected to the Pinellas County Commission in 2008, where she served one term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">She will officially kick off her campaign on Tuesday, March 24, at the OCC Roadhouse in Clearwater. The host committee includes several prominent backers, most Republicans, including several Pinellas County Commissioners, current and former School Board members, Tax Collector Adam Ross, Property Appraiser Mike Twitty, former St. Pete City Council member Ed Montanari and dozens of others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bostock, who <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/772044-nancy-bostock-launches-school-board-bid-earns-endorsement-from-stephanie-meyer\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">announced her campaign in January<\/a>, will focus her campaign on maximizing student outcomes, providing transparency for parents and ensuring resources are directed toward classrooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">She previously earned support earlier this month from <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/782981-nancy-bostock-nabs-support-from-majority-of-pinellas-county-commission-in-school-board-bid\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a majority of the Pinellas County Commission<\/a>, including Chair\u00a0Dave Eggers, Vice Chair\u00a0Chris Latvala\u00a0and Commissioners\u00a0Vince Nowicki,\u00a0Chris Scherer\u00a0and\u00a0Brian Scott, all Republicans. Commissioners\u00a0Kathleen Peters, a Republican, and\u00a0Rene\u00a0Flowers, a Democrat and former School Board member, have not yet endorsed in the race.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flapartners.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Floridian-Partners-Ad-1_728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-283055\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">She also <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/778884-nancy-bostock-lands-colleague-former-member-support-in-bid-for-pinellas-school-board\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">landed support<\/a>\u00a0from incumbent School Board member\u00a0Dawn\u00a0Peters\u00a0and from former School Board members\u00a0Lucille\u00a0Casey,\u00a0Carol\u00a0Cook,\u00a0Ken\u00a0Peluso\u00a0and\u00a0Ron\u00a0Walker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A lifelong Pinellas County resident, Bostock attended Clearwater High School. She earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in history from the University of Florida and a master\u2019s degree in education from the University of South Florida.
