PETERSBURG, FL \u2014 After 75 years in business in St. Petersburg, <a href=\"https:\/\/thechattaway.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Chattaway<\/a> will close its doors for good this summer. <\/p>\n<p>The prospective owner of the iconic property is Cullen Mahoney with the St. Pete-based real estate development firm Sodus Development. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI care deeply about The Chattaway and what it means to the residents of St. Petersburg,\u201d Mahoney told the Times. \u201cAny path forward would need to be rooted in preserving what makes this place special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The eatery, one of the oldest in the city, was established in 1951 by Jillian Frers, who is from England, according to The Chattaway\u2019s website. <\/p>\n<p>The property, built in 1922, was originally home to Four Corners Grocery, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/life-culture\/food\/2026\/03\/19\/st-petersburg-institution-the-chattaway-sold-commemorative-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to St. Pete Rising<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Frers\u2019 son, Greg Kitto, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cltampa.com\/food-drink\/st-petes-chattaway-restaurant-will-close-this-summer-its-definitely-bittersweet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told Creative Loafing<\/a> that the restaurant\u2019s pending closure is \u201cdefinitely bittersweet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family plans to hold a yard sale at the restaurant in July to sell memorabilia and decor, reports said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
