Jakub Mensik rose to a career-high World No. 12 this month but has slipped in the PIF ATP Live Rankings ahead of his title defence in Miami.

Defending champion Jakub Mensik<\/a> returns to the Miami Open presented by Itau<\/a> balancing the weight of expectation with the momentum of a statement start to the season, in which he is pushing toward a Top 10 debut.<\/p>\n The 20-year-old Czech arrives with significant points to defend after last year\u2019s dream run to his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title \u2014 where he defeated idol Novak Djokovic<\/a> in the final \u2014 but that challenge does little to overshadow the rapid progress he has continued to make in 2026.<\/p>\n Mensik lifted the trophy in Auckland in January and backed it up with the biggest win of his career over World No. 2 Jannik Sinner<\/a> en route to the semi-finals in Doha. As a result, he surged to ninth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.<\/p>\n With a long way to go until he can start thinking of a debut at the Nitto ATP Finals<\/a>, Mensik faces the immediate pressure of PIF ATP Rankings. Having climbed to a career-high World No. 12 earlier this month, Mensik has now slipped to 26th in the PIF ATP Live Rankings after dropping 990 points from his title run in Miami last year.<\/p>\n For Mensik, though, the focus remains internal as he returns to the site of his biggest triumph.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I came back here again, seeing everything again, it gave me a lot of flashbacks from the tournament [last year],\u201d Mensik told ATP Media in a pre-tournament interview. \u201cBeing back here is really nice, but I\u2019m trying to focus on this week because it\u2019s a new week, a new opportunity.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is nowhere written that I\u2019m going to win this tournament again, so I need to stay focused on myself and keep doing what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/p>\n Mensik will open his Miami campaign against Sebastian Baez<\/a> or qualifier Adam Walton<\/a>. Regardless of the outcome during the fortnight, his body of work over the past year underlines his growing presence at the top level.<\/p>\n A 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals competitor, Mensik has already notched nine Lexus ATP Head2Head wins over Top 10 opponents and reached the fourth round at this year\u2019s Australian Open<\/a> before he was forced to withdraw ahead of his clash with Djokovic. More importantly, the Czech believes his biggest gains have come beyond the numbers.<\/p>\n
