An current Indiana University student and an IU graduate were killed in a hit-and-run crash in south Florida Wednesday night, police said.<\/p>\n

Adan Negron-Morris, 42, has been charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and two counts of leaving the scene of a crash causing death, according to online court records.<\/p>\n

The Miami Beach Police Department said Negron-Morris was driving a black Nissan Sentra and was witnessed driving without headlights in a reckless manner near 71st Street and Collins Avenue in the city around 9 p.m. March 18, NBC Miami reports.<\/a><\/p>\n

That car passed a police officer, who attempted to respond as multiple 911 calls were also being received about the reckless driving, police said.<\/p>\n

Police said as Negron-Morris entered the intersection of 73rd Street and Collins Avenue, he struck two pedestrians, then stopped a block away and fled into a nearby drug store.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told police where Negron-Morris was, and he was taken into custody and then to a local hospital.<\/p>\n

Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

NBC Miami<\/a> reports they were identified as Sarisa Kongduang and Greatgomon Laowatdhanasapya, a current and former student at Indiana University.<\/p>\n

An arrest report obtained by NBC Miami said a DUI investigation revealed Negron-Morris showed signs of impairment, but he refused to give a blood sample, though “police ordered hospital staff to obtain a forced blood draw,” the station said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the report, Negron-Morris later told police he suffers from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression and intended to take his own life by crashing the car.<\/p>\n

Negron-Morris told police he recalled “closing his eyes, pressing the accelerator, and hoping to die,” according to the crash report. He also allegedly told police he’s had marijuana and an unknown medication provided by his girlfriend the day of the crash.<\/p>\n
