PALM CITY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 An escape unfolded in Palm City as the alleged driver fled the scene of a crash, only to be apprehended shortly after, raising concerns over reckless behavior linked to nitrous oxide use.<\/p>\n

The Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> said that the incident began at the intersection of Berry Avenue and Martin Highway in Palm City, where a driver involved in a crash fled the scene on foot. <\/p>\n

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect run from the crash site and into a nearby senior care facility before disappearing into the Islesworth community.<\/p>\n

Deputies searching the abandoned vehicle reported finding cans of nitrous oxide inside, leading them to believe that the driver may have been huffing the substance while operating the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Deputies said that they were able to locate the suspect a short time later within the neighborhood and took them into custody. <\/p>\n

The driver is currently accused of leaving the scene of the crash, with additional charges under consideration.<\/p>\n

According to officials, residents should expect to see a continued law enforcement presence at the crash site as deputies work to complete their investigation.<\/p>\n
