{"id":199675,"date":"2026-03-20T21:11:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T21:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/199675\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T21:11:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T21:11:08","slug":"the-chattaway-one-of-st-petersburgs-oldest-restaurants-is-being-sold-st-petersburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/199675\/","title":{"rendered":"The Chattaway, one of St. Petersburg\u2019s oldest restaurants, is being sold | St. Petersburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of St. Petersburg\u2019s oldest restaurants, The Chattaway, is changing hands in August.<\/p>\n<p>Known for burgers, a large patio, high-tea service and live music, it\u2019s been around in its current iteration for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Debby Kitto said the restaurant is in the process of being sold, and that the new owners plan to fix it up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe they are going to keep it the same, they bought the name,\u201d Debby Kitto said by phone March 17. \u201cWe don\u2019t have any grandkids that want to take the restaurant over, so we sold it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jillian Frers, Kitto\u2019s mother, was the driving force behind the restaurant for years. Kitto said she wants to return to her native London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that we are moving forward,\u201d said Winona Kitto, one of Frers\u2019 six children, said by phone Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Debby Kitto said they may have a big party before the sale, but she hasn\u2019t planned anything yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One of St. Petersburg\u2019s oldest restaurants, The Chattaway, is changing hands in August.
