{"id":200472,"date":"2026-03-21T13:47:37","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T13:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/200472\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T13:47:37","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T13:47:37","slug":"cold-case-solved-after-eight-years-tallahassee-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/200472\/","title":{"rendered":"Cold Case Solved After Eight Years \u2013 Tallahassee Reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                        <img width=\"884\" height=\"570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Crimetape1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image lazy\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  data-\/>                                            <\/p>\n<p>After nearly eight years without answers, the Big Bend Cold Case Task Force has announced a major breakthrough in the 2017 homicide of 38-year-old Kaylyn Van De Wostine with the arrest of Akbar Beale.<\/p>\n<p>Van De Wostine was found deceased on November 3, 2017, in the 2600 block of McArthur Street. Investigators determined she died from a single gunshot wound. Despite extensive early efforts, leads in the case went cold until new forensic technology gave detectives the tools they needed to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, in 2019 investigators found blood in Beale\u2019s truck but could not identify whose blood it was at that time \u201cdue to an insufficient amount of DNA.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In June 2025, the task force submitted the DNA evidence for advanced forensic testing, which provided detectives with critical new information and ultimately identified 46-year-old Akbar Beale as the individual responsible for Van De Wostine\u2019s death. Beale was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. <\/p>\n<p>The TPD press release stated that \u201cThe Big Bend Cold Case Task Force and its partner agencies remain committed to reviewing unsolved cases across the region.
