\t\t\tOBITUARY\t\t<\/p>\n
Tom, a Fort Lauderdale landscape architect, ISA Certified Arborist, and passionate advocate for trees, passed away peacefully at his home on March 11, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving children.<\/p>\n
\nTom is survived by his three children, Jeremy Thomas Chancey, Jennifer Chancey Van Williams, and Kaela Chancey Roffman; six grandchildren, with one more on the way; and four great-grandchildren. He was the only son of Marjorie Overstreet Chancey and Lloyd Edgar Chancey.<\/p>\n
\nTom\u2019s faith as one of Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses was the foundation of his life. A man of honor, integrity, and deep conviction, he openly shared his belief in Jehovah and in the promise that the Earth will one day be restored to paradise.<\/p>\n
\nThroughout his career, Tom dedicated himself to the care, preservation, and relocation of trees. He was the owner<\/p>\n
\nof L. Thomas Chancey and Associates and operated several related ventures, including Artistree, a tree-care and pruning company, and Softscapes, a tropical garden gallery in Fort Lauderdale.<\/p>\n
\nTom was widely known for his long-standing \u201cSave Our Trees\u201d advocacy and founded the nonprofit Tree Bank, which rescued and relocated trees threatened by development throughout South Florida.<\/p>\n
\nA celebration of Tom\u2019s life will be held at the Stranahan House in Fort Lauderdale on May 27, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that a tree be planted in Tom\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n
