PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Port St. Lucie<\/a> leaders unanimously approved a land deal Monday that moves the city one step closer to getting its own Costco <\/a>retail store.<\/p>\n

The Port St. Lucie Governmental Finance Corporation voted to authorize a purchase and sale agreement with Costco Wholesale Corporation for about 22.8 acres of land in Southern Grove.<\/p>\n

According to city documents, the property is located near the southeast corner of Southwest Village Parkway and Marshall Parkway and is being sold for $6 million.<\/p>\n

The agreement would allow Costco to build a retail warehouse store of up to about 170,000 square feet, which could include a gas station, pharmacy, tire center and other services.<\/p>\n

City leaders said residents have been asking for a Costco in Port St. Lucie for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know our residents are very, very excited,\u201d one council member said during Monday\u2019s meeting. \u201cWhen the agenda came out last week, within minutes it was all over social media about Costco coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

The proposed store would be built near a Costco distribution depot <\/a>currently under construction in Port St. Lucie. That depot \u2014 not the retail store \u2014 is expected to bring more than 500 jobs to the area.<\/p>\n

Right now, the closest Costco for Port St. Lucie shoppers is about 20 miles away in Stuart, where the Treasure Coast\u2019s first Costco opened in 2025 on South Kanner Highway.<\/p>\n

If the project moves forward, construction could begin once development approvals are secured.<\/p>\n
