FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – Rescue crews took two people to the hospital after a van plunged into a canal at a marina in Fort Lauderdale, officials and witnesses said.<\/p>\n
Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the crash at the Yacht Haven Park & Marina along the 2300 block of West State Road 84, just after 7:45 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Cellphone video recorded from a nearby apartment building captured first responders at the gated marina.<\/p>\n
Liam Lenihan told 7News he witnessed the crash.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of a sudden, boom, right through the gate, blew it to pieces,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement and divers with FLFR were able to reach the victims from the sinking van.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey drove into the back, into the water. The guy got rescued out of the car and then [paramedics] started CPR on him, came back to life,\u201d said Lenihan, \u201cand then the girl, she didn\u2019t get pulled out till 15, 20 minutes later.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fire officials said the man nearly drowned. Both victims were transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.<\/p>\n
As for why the van ended up in the water, that\u2019s still not clear, though deputies remained at the scene for several hours investigating.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust that, just crazy, like unbelievable,\u201d said Lenihan.<\/p>\n
As of early Monday morning, the victims; conditions are unknown.<\/p>\n
BSO did not immediately respond to 7News\u2019 request for more information, as they continue to investigate the crash.<\/p>\n
