{"id":202941,"date":"2026-03-23T20:57:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T20:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/202941\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T20:57:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T20:57:12","slug":"no-end-in-sight-orlando-apartment-complex-residents-plead-for-answers-timeline-to-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/202941\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018No end in sight:\u2019 Orlando apartment complex residents plead for answers, timeline to return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORLANDO, Fla.  \u2013 Hundreds of residents remain displaced after being forced out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2026\/03\/19\/orange-county-apartment-building-evacuated-because-of-structural-instability-fire-crews-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2026\/03\/19\/orange-county-apartment-building-evacuated-because-of-structural-instability-fire-crews-say\/\">The Rialto apartment complex<\/a>, with many now scrambling to find housing while facing mounting financial and emotional stress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Orange County <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2026\/03\/20\/we-thought-we-were-going-to-die-woman-describes-calling-911-before-entire-apartment-building-evacuates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2026\/03\/20\/we-thought-we-were-going-to-die-woman-describes-calling-911-before-entire-apartment-building-evacuates\/\">officials evacuated the building<\/a> on West Sand Lake Road in the Dr. Phillips area on Thursday after crews responded to a resident\u2019s report of popping noises, found signs of structural instability, and fresh cracking through drywall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Residents say the sudden displacement has left them searching for answers, with no clear timeline for when \u2014 or if \u2014 they will be able to return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s like I just got hit again,\u201d said Angela Prather, a displaced resident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Prather said the situation has added to an already difficult time in her life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s already been a very hard time for me. My son died a year ago, so it\u2019s an additional stress,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In a statement, the property\u2019s parent company said it is working to support residents during the displacement. The company says it is providing $1,000 per apartment to help cover expenses and waiving rent for the time residents are unable to stay in their units.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But several residents say that assistance may not be enough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThat $1,000, I know ain\u2019t going as far for families of four or five,\u201d one resident said. \u201cIt\u2019s very helpful, but the reality is that\u2019s a few nights at a hotel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Others say they are still waiting for clarity from insurance providers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cYou\u2019re jumping through all the hoops with everybody, it feels like everybody wants to get out of some sort of responsibility, we\u2019re just kind of stuck,\u201d another resident said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Beyond financial concerns, mental health professionals say the displacement is taking a deeper toll.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt is a financial impact, no doubt, but it is an emotional impact. It\u2019s a traumatic impact,\u201d said Dr. John Stiteler, a counselor working with affected residents. \u201cThis is a loss \u2014 loss of security, loss of community \u2014 and there\u2019s going to be grief.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Stiteler said his organization is offering free therapy services for the next three months to anyone impacted by the situation, including residents and their families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to offer free therapy, anybody who is impacted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Stiteler\u2019s group previously provided mental health services to victims, families, and first responders in the aftermath of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Residents say uncertainty remains one of their biggest concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe don\u2019t know. All of us are kind of in limbo.
