{"id":203582,"date":"2026-03-24T07:26:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T07:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/203582\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T07:26:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T07:26:26","slug":"two-shootings-in-24-hours-leave-southwest-miami-dade-community-on-edge-police-seek-suspects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/203582\/","title":{"rendered":"Two shootings in 24 hours leave southwest Miami-Dade community on edge; police seek suspects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two separate shootings in 24 hours reported in a southwest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/miami-dade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Miami-Dade<\/a> neighborhood have left residents grieving and searching for answers as deputies hunt for those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>The violence began Saturday night, when 21-year-old Kenneth Walters Jr. was shot and killed on Homestead Avenue near West Guava Street. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/miami-dade-sheriffs-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Miami-Dade Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/a> deputies say Walters was shot multiple times during a large birthday party shortly before 10 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n<p>A growing memorial now marks the spot where Walters lost his life, with loved ones and neighbors leaving flowers to honor his memory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a sad situation. I feel for the family,&#8221; said neighbor Errol A. Campbell. &#8220;Very nice young fellow. I&#8217;ve never seen that young fellow in any problems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shockingly, just feet away from the Saturday night crime scene, another shooting erupted Sunday evening \u2013 also during a birthday party. Gunfire rang out shortly before 6:30 p.m., sending residents scrambling and prompting a heavy police response.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Investigators placed multiple evidence markers on the road as they searched for clues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I visit this area and I never, ever heard a gunshot ever,&#8221; Campbell added, expressing disbelief over the back-to-back incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Investigation underway to determine if shootings were connected<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have not confirmed a motive or whether the two shootings are directly connected, but neighbors believe there may be a link. Police are continuing to search for the suspects responsible for both shootings.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to contact police.
