Smith, a\u00a0freshman\u00a0digital communication and multimedia journalism major, got into photography in middle school after taking a few classes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
She started her own photography business taking portraits and knew she wanted to continue taking photos once she got to college.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI will definitely continue it as a career,\u201d Smith said.\u00a0\u201cSince my major is journalism, I\u2019d like to incorporate that into my career as well.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
For\u00a0Reverendo, a\u00a0freshman\u00a0health sciences major, photography is more\u00a0of\u00a0a hobby. She also got her start in middle school and took an AP class in high school, which taught her the more technical side of photography.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I\u2019ve always loved photography, and we have people in my family that do photography,\u201d\u00a0Reverendo\u00a0said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two, along with the rest of the executive board, want to create\u00a0community through\u00a0photography.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to help people expand in their creative abilities and give people feedback as well,\u201d Smith said.\u00a0\u201cIf they\u2019re unsure or not confident in their photos, I want to have a community of people to uplift each other and support each other.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reverendo\u00a0said that skill\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0matter to them \u2014 they just want people to come out and try something\u00a0new,\u00a0and the club gives students the space to do that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople who want to build careers out of it, they can learn how to take better photos and how to [create] a portfolio, or even ask advice from, now, an entrepreneur,\u201d\u00a0Reverendo\u00a0said referring to Smith.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reverendo\u00a0said that the\u00a0club also\u00a0wants\u00a0to give students the chance to see the city.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can take [students] around St. Pete, let them get to know the city that they\u2019re living in, so you\u2019re not just attending school, but actually being part of the community,\u201d\u00a0Reverendo\u00a0said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
So far, the club has covered several events, such as Ebony Ball, hosted by the Black Student Association (BSA)\u00a0and Carnaval, hosted by the Latin American Student Associate (LASA) and the Caribbean Culture Exchange (CCE).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
They also took headshots for another new club on campus, the Musical Theatre Club.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Smith shared that they have had many other clubs and organizations reach out to them for coverage and collaborations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s really big for us,\u201d Smith said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is to eventually help open these opportunities to our members, so they can actually get real experience through the events,\u201d\u00a0Reverendo\u00a0told\u00a0The Crow\u2019s Nest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before even hosting their first general interest meeting, Smith shared that\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0heard a lot of students talking about the club.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
With the lack of photography classes at this campus, students\u00a0often\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience and pick up new skills.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Smith hopes that by next semester they can host a few of their own events, such as photography\u00a0showcases, contests\u00a0and photo walks to build more campus engagement and grow their club.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reverendo\u00a0echoed this sentiment and added that getting involved is incredibly important to the college experience.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like being a part of clubs really helps you grow as a person\u2026\u00a0and makes you a more well-rounded person,\u201d\u00a0Reverendo\u00a0said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s first official meeting was held on March 11. Students who are interested in joining\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0required to have equipment of their own, but the club will not be supplying cameras.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
