The seats were all previously held by Republicans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Polls close at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Senate District 14<\/p>\n<p>Republicans hold a 27-11 edge over Democrats in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_State_Senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Florida Senate<\/a>. There is one independent and one vacancy. Members serve four-year terms; the even-numbered districts are up for election this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_State_Senate_District_14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">District 14<\/a> encompasses portions of Tampa and adjacent areas. Republican Jay Collins resigned in August after being appointed Lieutenant Governor.<\/p>\n<p>This district is somewhat competitive. Collins won by a 55% to 45% margin in 2022. The <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/786531-dems-hope-for-long-shot-upset-in-sd-14-special-election-between-josie-tomkow-brian-nathan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">nominees<\/a> are state Rep. Josie Tomkow (R) and Brian Nathan (D), a Navy veteran and union leader.<\/p>\n<p>Florida House Districts 51 and 87<\/p>\n<p>Republicans hold a large 83-33 margin over Democrats in the 120 seat\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_House_of_Representatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Florida State House<\/a>. There are four vacancies. Members serve two-year terms; the next regular elections are in November.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_House_of_Representatives_District_51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">District 51<\/a>: Julie Tomkow resigned as of yesterday; she is the Republican nominee for Tuesday&#8217;s State Senate special election. Tomkow was reelected by a 57% to 43% margin in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The district bisects Interstate 4, and sits about halfway between Tampa and Orlando in the central part of the state. The nominees are Republican Hilary Holley and Democrat Edwin Perez.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_House_of_Representatives_District_87\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">District 87<\/a>\u00a0encompasses primarily coastal portions of Palm Beach County.\u00a0Republican Mike Caruso resigned in August after being appointed Palm Beach County Clerk and Comptroller.\u00a0Caruso was reelected by a 19% margin in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Among Tuesday&#8217;s special elections, this race is drawing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/03\/13\/florida-special-election-palm-beach-00826611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">most attention<\/a> as the district\u00a0includes Mar-a-Lago, President Trump&#8217;s primary residence.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Jon Maples and Democrat Emily Gregory each <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/785917-hd-87-voters-to-fill-long-vacant-seat-as-emily-gregory-jon-maples-face-off-in-special-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">received over 80%<\/a> of the vote in special primaries held in January.<\/p>\n<p>A special election in <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_House_of_Representatives_District_52\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">District 52<\/a> was cancelled. Republican Samantha Scott was unopposed after the lone Democrat that filed <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/766163-after-lone-opponent-withdraws-samantha-scott-a-shoo-in-for-hd-52\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">withdrew in November<\/a>. Scott is eligible to be seated after today.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth vacancy is in the Miami area <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_House_of_Representatives_District_113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">District 113<\/a>. Republican Vicki Lopez resigned in November after being appointed to the Miami-Dade County Commission. A special primary is scheduled for August 18, with the special election November 3.
