A former Dolphins starter signed with the 49ers<\/p>\n
The Miami Dolphins<\/a> offensive line has been a topic of discussion for what seems like a decade. Ever since the days of Ryan Tannehill, Miami\u2019s offensive line has been newsworthy, whether by poor play or by the bullygate scandal led by Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin. However, one thing has been true throughout and that is that the Dolphins have been at their best when they have a strong offensive line.<\/p>\n Miami has not made the playoffs since the 2023 season. That year, the Dolphins featured one of their strongest lines in recent memory, as they had one of the best left tackles in the NFL, Terron Armstead, and the second-best center in the NFL, Connor Williams, according to Pro Football Focus,<\/a> a guard who would then sign a $100 million contract in Robert Hunt, and two former first-round picks at right tackle and left guard.\u00a0<\/p>\n Unfortunately, the team faced injuries in the offensive line that season as Connor Williams suffered a season-ending injury after nine games, and Isaiah Wynn did after seven games. Additionally, Armstead played in only ten games, while Hunt played in only 11 games. As a result, despite the explosive offense, the team dwindled down the stretch and after a promising start, lost in their first postseason game. Now, one of those players who spent time on that team\u2019s offensive line has signed with an NFC team.<\/p>\n Former Miami Dolphins Guard Signs With 49ers<\/p>\n NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported that<\/a> former Miami Dolphins guard Robert Jones signed with the San Francisco 49ers<\/a>. Jones was a member of the Dolphins for four seasons before signing with the Dallas Cowboys<\/a> prior to the 2025 season.<\/p>\n Jones started five games for the Dolphins during the 2023 season, replacing the previously mentioned Robert Hunt. Once Hunt left in free agency, Jones became the team\u2019s starting right guard for the 2024 season. He started all 17 games and was ranked 59th out of 77 qualified guards in the NFL. Miami opted not to re-sign Jones following the season. Jones earned $5.4 million during his four seasons with the Dolphins, according to Spotrac.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n Unfortunately for Jones, he suffered a season-ending neck injury with the Cowboys and did not play a regular season snap for Dallas.\u00a0<\/p>\n Dolphins\u2019 Offensive Line<\/p>\n Instead of re-signing Jones following the 2024 season, Miami brought in veteran free agent James Daniels, who unfortunately had a similar 2025 season to Jones. Daniels played three snaps during the team\u2019s season opener against the Indianapolis Colts<\/a>, before he suffered a season-ending injury. Daniels was then released after the season, one year into his three-year contract.<\/p>\n For the team\u2019s other guard spot, Miami traded up to select Jonah Savaiinaea in the second round of the NFL Draft. Despite starting every game for the Dolphins last season, Savaiinaea was the lowest-ranked guard in the NFL last season, according to Pro Football Focus.\u00a0<\/p>\n This offseason, Miami signed former Chargers<\/a> offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer to a one-year contract. Regarding Salyer\u2019s signing, Sports Illustrated\u2019s Dante Collinelli said<\/a>, \u201cWhen looking for potential offensive line help on the open market, it\u2019s always nice when you can get a player with legitimate experience.
