(Kelsey Strigler\/Relay For Life at FSU)\t\t<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.acsevents.org\/site\/TR\/RelayForLife\/RFLCY26SER?pg=entry&amp;fr_id=111186\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Relay For Life at FSU<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0supporting\u00a0the fight against cancer\u00a0and getting ready for\u00a0their\u00a0annual\u00a0fundraising\u00a0event. The student\u00a0organization\u00a0raised\u00a0more\u00a0than\u00a0$34,000\u00a0in one\u00a0day\u00a0for\u00a0cancer research and\u00a0patient support\u00a0in partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS)\u00a0at recent events\u00a0ahead of\u00a0the\u00a0fundraiser\u00a0on April 11.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRelay For Life shows the power of students coming together for something bigger than themselves and creating a community of hope and support for those affected by cancer,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Kelsey\u00a0Strigler, executive director of Relay\u00a0For\u00a0Life at FSU.\u00a0\u201cAs\u00a0executive\u00a0director,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0inspiring to see our community unite to fundraise, spread awareness\u00a0and\u00a0support the mission of the American Cancer Society until there is a cure.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The organization\u00a0held several events during\u00a0Giving\u00a0Tuesday\u00a02025,\u00a0when\u00a0more than\u00a035 registered student organizations and 145 individuals\u00a0fundraised\u00a0to achieve this milestone.\u00a0The day started with\u00a0a\u00a0giving event\u00a0on Landis Green\u00a0which included\u00a0a power hour\u00a0of fundraising,\u00a0pieing\u00a0and\u00a0student\u00a0performances.\u00a0RFL at FSU\u2019s goal was to raise $20,000,\u00a0a mark that they\u00a0exceeded\u00a0by\u00a0$14,000,\u00a0a 290% increase from the 2024 Giving Tuesday\u00a0event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRelay For Life shows the power of students coming together for something bigger than themselves and creating a community of hope and support for those affected by cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u2014 Kelsey Strigler, executive director of Relay For Life at FSU<\/p>\n<p>After placing third nationally during Fall Fundraising Week, Relay\u00a0For\u00a0Life at FSU qualified as a top\u00a0college to\u00a0participate\u00a0in\u00a0the Fall Fumble, an exclusive bracket challenge featuring the country\u2019s top 32 fundraising universities. By securing first place in this final competition, the organization was officially named \u201cCollege Champion\u201d by the\u00a0ACS.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Relay\u00a0For\u00a0Life student leaders have come into this year with a passion and drive that exceeds all expectations,\u201d said Stormy McGivern, director of the FSU Office of Student Organizations and Involvement. \u201cTheir dedication to raising awareness about and fundraising for the American Cancer Society directly supports countless members of our FSU community who have been directly\u00a0impacted\u00a0by cancer.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0thrilled to see RFL continue to expand their campus and community partnerships. Their success in the Fall Fumble is a testament to the work\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0put in so far. (Kelsey Strigler\/Relay For Life at FSU) <\/p>\n<p>In the evening, Relay\u00a0For\u00a0Life at FSU hosted a\u00a0survivor and caregiver dinner\u00a0sponsored by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/csw.fsu.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FSU College of Social\u00a0Work<\/a>.\u00a0The student organization invited cancer survivors from around Leon County to honor them and their journey through cancer.\u00a0The dinner was held\u00a0on campus\u00a0and\u00a0concluded with a\u00a0luminaria ceremony\u00a0to\u00a0remember\u00a0those lost to cancer,\u00a0honor those who have fought\u00a0the disease\u00a0and\u00a0support those whose fight continues.\u00a0Three survivors spoke at the\u00a0ceremony,\u00a0including FSU softball coach Lonni Alameda. \u00a0At the end of the ceremony, RFL at FSU revealed the fundraising total for the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese funds go toward patient services such as free rides to treatment, free lodging at ACS\u2019 many Hope Lodges for cancer patients while they undergo treatment, as well as grants for medical facilities and programs,\u201d said Melissa Schaldenbrand, senior development\u00a0manager\u00a0at the American Cancer Society.\u00a0\u201cWe are so grateful to Dean Springer for approving the sponsorship request.\u00a0The support from the College of Social Work ensured the funds raised on Giving Tuesday went toward\u00a0assisting\u00a0cancer patients and those who care for them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/RFL-Luminaria-1.1.jpg\" class=\"fresco\" data-fresco-caption=\"Survivors and students speak during the Luminaria Ceremony on Dec. 2, 2025 (Kelsey Strigler\/Relay For Life at FSU)\" aria-labelledby=\"img-caption-125358-0\" data-fresco-group=\"gallery-0bb84838\" data-fresco-options=\"thumbnail:&#039;https:\/\/news.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/RFL-Luminaria-1.1-1200x800.jpg&#039;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Survivors and students speak during the Luminaria Ceremony on Dec. 2, 2025 (Kelsey Strigler\/Relay For Life at FSU)<a href=\"https:\/\/news.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/RFL-Dinner-1.1.jpg\" class=\"fresco\" data-fresco-caption=\"Survivors, caregivers and students gather during dinner at The Globe.
