Nearly six years after a crash in Plantation left one person dead and another seriously injured, a driver who was allegedly going 100 mph just before impact has been arrested, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Darryl Efford, of Miami, was arrested Tuesday on a vehicular homicide charge, Broward jail records showed.<\/p>\n
The arrest came a day before his 41st birthday, records showed.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, the crash happened the night of July 7, 2020, when Efford, who was driving a Subaru WRX, struck a Mercedes that was making a left turn near the 4300 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.<\/p>\n
One person was killed and the other was seriously injured. Their names were redacted from the report.<\/p>\n
Data from the Subaru showed it was going 85.7 mph five seconds before the crash and accelerated to a maximum of 100 mph one second before the crash, the report said.<\/p>\n
The data also showed “that Efford was at 100 percent acceleration from five seconds prior to the crash to just under two seconds prior to the crash,” the report said.<\/p>\n
A consulting group report found that the Subaru was going 87.97 at impact on a 45 mph road and found that if it was traveling at the posted speed limit the crash wouldn’t have happened, the report said.<\/p>\n
