MARTIN COUNTY \u2013 A woman who claimed that a Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office patrol car hit the car she was driving was cited for improper backing and giving false information to a police officer, according to sheriff\u2019s office reports.<\/p>\n
In the body cam released by Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office, it shows the unnamed woman driver backing up until she hits the patrol vehicle. The incident happened at about 11:45 p.m., on Oct. 22.<\/p>\n
The woman can be heard saying, \u201cyou hit me, what are you talking about?\u201d when the officer said she backed into him.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd so, there\u2019s this back-and-forth exchange where she is accusing our deputy rear-ending her when the deputy has the video of her putting the car in reverse and driving into him,\u201d Sheriff John Budensiek said. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen that as a trend and I\u2019m not saying that she\u2019s part of that trend but we have seen that as a trend in society where individuals are purposely backing their vehicles into a vehicle behind them.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis highlights the importance of having body cameras and video in what we do,\u201d he said. \u201cThis actually saved the deputy in this case because if there had not been a body camera there, it would have been her word against his word.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported.
