Head to St. Pete Pier, a 26-acre public park extending into Tampa Bay, to see installations that include a pair of pillar box-red pelicans (the brown pelican is St. Petersburg’s official bird) and a life-sized stainless-steel aeroplane. Then soak up some of the city\u2019s 600 rainbow-coloured street murals by wandering the neighbourhoods of downtown. For your arty adventures downtown St Pete, The Vinoy Resort and Golf Club Autograph Collection<\/a> is a great base.<\/p>\n A sprawling arts estate in Sarasota<\/p>\n The Ringling estate is home to fascinating museums, including the C\u00e0 d’Zan, the former winter home of the circus mogul<\/p>\n Visit Florida<\/p>\n Another hub of creativity on Florida’s Gulf Coast is Sarasota. Known as the Cultural Coast, the city faces onto beautiful Sarasota Bay, a lagoon flanked by several white-sand keys. Sarasota Orchestra, home to regular performances of Wagner, Mozart and Brahms, is another venue for exceptional classical music, while the programme at nearby Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall features pop acts, comedians and performances of hit Broadway musicals.<\/p>\n Florida Studio Theater, which is classed as one of the major cultural institutions in the Gulf Coast region, has off-Broadway shows, cabaret and improv nights. For live dance, the internationally acclaimed Sarasota Ballet, led by a team formerly of The Royal Ballet and Sadler\u2019s Wells, performs all over the city throughout the year. <\/p>\n For something altogether different, head across the bay to Siesta Key, where every Sunday there’s a public drum circle just before sunset. A small group of drummers start the beat, with costumed dancers drawing in a circle of locals and visitors of all ages. Originally a spiritual ritual (possibly due to folklore that says Siesta Beach’s quartz sand has healing powers), the event is now an inclusive gathering for all ages.
