Dense fog advisory affects morning travel<\/p>\n
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 This morning in Jacksonville and across Northeast Florida, the dense fog advisory is my top concern. Visibility is way down in Brunswick, Jacksonville, Mayport, Waycross, Valdosta, Lake City, and Gainesville. Some places, like Palatka, have zero visibility right now, and it\u2019s even dropping quickly in Orange Park.<\/p>\n
When I say it\u2019s thick, I mean it\u2014I couldn\u2019t even see road signs on my drive in. If you\u2019re about to leave, your best friend will be your low-beam headlights, not your brights. The fog is expected to lift by about 10 a.m., and that\u2019s when we\u2019ll start to see sunshine moving through.<\/p>\n
Right now, temperatures are hanging around 59 degrees at the airport. We\u2019ve got still air, which doesn\u2019t help drive away the fog but should make for a calmer morning once the clouds clear.<\/p>\n
Extreme drought brings fire danger<\/p>\n
We are still in the thick of an extreme drought here in Northeast Florida and South Georgia. The drought monitor is almost all red\u2014this level of dryness brings serious fire danger.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re thinking about firing up the fire pit tonight, take it from me: now\u2019s not the time. Even a small spark could start a fire in these conditions, so let\u2019s not chance it. Everyone is being asked to use water carefully too\u2014right now, keeping lawn watering down to once a week can make a difference.<\/p>\n
Temperatures rise, big cooldown coming<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s what to expect the rest of today: Once that fog lifts, the sun will peek out and we\u2019ll head up to a high near 82 degrees. Expect partly cloudy skies during the day.<\/p>\n
By tonight, temperatures are predicted to drop to around 58 degrees with mostly clear skies.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow, we could almost touch 90 degrees, but get ready for change! By Saturday, it\u2019s forecast to be about 19 degrees cooler, with a high near 70. Temperatures will stick in the 70s through Monday, then bounce back up to the 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s no significant rain on the horizon\u2014it\u2019s looking bone dry all week. We might see a couple of light showers off the Atlantic, but nothing that\u2019s likely to ease the drought.<\/p>\n
