Williamson), the newest incarnation of Swim in Salt released their new album, \u201cPleased do Move You,\u201d in 2025. The band currently features Mark Neuenschwander on bass; Michael Zelenak on piano, keys, and backup vocals; Flash Gordon on vocals, flute, and sax; Vincent Sims on guitar; Manny Lopez on percussion; Jo Karen on vocals; Gonzalo Ovelar on drums; and John Feazell on congas and trombone.<\/p>\n According to the band\u2019s website, Flash wrote and performed his first original song in the sixth grade when the elementary school he attended planted a tree near the front entry of the school. Flash wrote the lyrics to \u201cCome & See the Future,\u201d while his friend Jeff Schippel arranged the chord structure on acoustic guitar. Charlie Zisette joined on tambourine. Flash started playing the flute in 1973 while in high school. After graduation, he relocated \u2014 first to Atlanta, Georgia, and then to Indian Rocks Beach. In the early 1980s, he joined the Charlie Harwood Band. In 1987, Flash formed Louder than Lions, playing alongside other Tampa Bay area bands such as Mad for Electra and Deloris Telescope. Louder than Lions opened for the Mighty Lemondrops at Tampa\u2019s Masquerade.<\/p>\n Over the years, Flash has been part of many bands. Very few singers over the last 60 years have matched her unassailable artistry. This seven-time Grammy Award winner has enjoyed No. 1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B, and adult contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance.<\/p>\n All told, Knight has recorded more than 38 albums over the years, including four solo albums: \u201cGood Woman\u201d (1991); \u201cJust for You\u201d (1994); the inspirational \u201cMany Different Roads\u201d (1999); and \u201cAt Last\u201d (2001). \u201cAt Last\u201d showed the world that she still has what it takes to record a hit album, employing the talents of contemporary producers like Randy Jackson.<\/p>\n Knight has continued to spread her acting wings, making a guest star appearance in the FOX hit show \u201cStar\u201d and appearing in the film \u201cAlmost Christmas\u201d in 2016, both which were produced and directed by Lee Daniels. Those roots began to take hold as the band started hosting local open jams and playing gigs at small bars and venues in 2017. Since then, Sqwerv has become a staple in Denver’s music scene with bands like Magic Beans, Squeaky Feet, Eminence Ensemble and Rado.<\/p>\n This four-piece indie-psych rock band’s love for classic rock, psychedelic music and improvisation creates a sound that is refreshingly original and exciting. Sqwerv realizes the importance of good songwriting and is always pushing themselves in the improvisation. The band spends a great deal of time writing lyrics, composing, and developing song structure that has grown into a catalogue that ranges from 12-minute prog songs inspired by Homer’s Odyssey to 2-minute psych songs about love. They are fiercely driven to get to those transcendent, improvised spaces that all jam-music lovers crave. Sqwerv continues to deliver to their audiences through groove, counterpoint, polyrhythms and risk taking.<\/p>\n In the last two years the band has released two studio albums, three live albums and completed two national tours with no plans on stopping. They have had the opportunity to open for acts like Lespecial, Spafford, Eggy and Big Something. They hold themselves to a rigorous tour schedule playing unique shows for their fans on a regular basis. Visit www.theorpheum.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the band\u2019s website, Redd Kross have always existed slightly to the left of the rest of the world. Established in 1979 by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald of Hawthorne, California, the band sprang to life in the same Southern California orbit that produced Black Flag, with whom they played their earliest shows. But even then, Redd Kross were unmistakably their own thing. Where their peers carved out strict definitions of punk, the McDonalds treated the genre as an open invitation: a passport to mix bubblegum with noise, Kiss with the Velvet Underground, the Partridge Family with the Germs, sometimes in the same song and always without apology.<\/p>\n Through the 1980s and 1990s, Redd Kross built a reputation as one of the great unsummarizable American bands.<\/p>\n In 2024, the band enjoyed a year marked by a critically acclaimed self-titled double album, the documentary \u201cBorn Innocent,\u201d and a memoir \u201cNow You\u2019re One of Us.\u201d Redd Kross have been punching above their weight and outside their lane for more than four decades. Touring in support of this cluster of projects found the band at full power, whether headlining across the United States and Europe or joining the Melvins.<\/p>\n As they move toward working on their 10th album this year, Redd Kross remain a singular presence in American music.
