WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – A woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday in connection to a hit-and-run that left a Wakulla County 9-year-old boy hospitalized in January 2025.<\/p>\n

Alfreda Nelson was charged<\/a> last year with leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury in connection to the incident, according to her arrest report. She was released on a $50,000 bond and ordered not to drive while awaiting trial. <\/p>\n

However, moments before sentencing, the judge revealed that Nelson had violated that order.<\/p>\n

Nelson\u2019s sentencing comes a year after the child, Sawyer Crawley, was struck by a vehicle while riding his dirt bike on East Excalibur Drive in Crawfordville, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

The crash left the 9-year-old unconscious and suffering from a brain bleed as well as a broken femur, his mom Kaitlyn Crawley confirmed to WCTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the court session, Kaitlyn Crawley delivered her statement and read one on behalf of her son Sawyer, both urging the court to deliver justice.<\/p>\n

Nelson also took the stand Thursday, where she apologized to Sawyer and his family and asked for their forgiveness. <\/p>\n

After learning about the hit-and-run, the Wakulla County community rallied behind Sawyer on several occasions<\/a> last year, including holding a homecoming for him once he was released from the hospital<\/a>. <\/p>\n
