HIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) – A South Florida man and his attorney are demanding answers after they say Hialeah Police took the man to the ground for no reason.<\/p>\n
Speaking to 7News on Thursday, 27-year-old Alquez Griffin and his attorney Roderick Vereen said Griffin was heading home from work when he was pulled over at a gas station located on East 10th Avenue and Hialeah Drive last September.<\/p>\n
Body camera footage captured the ordeal as police with their guns drawn ordered Griffin and two others out of the car.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll taser your [expletive] chest if you don\u2019t come out. Come over here,\u201d said an officer on body camera video.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, get the [expletive] out of the car,\u201d said another officer.<\/p>\n
Vereen said the scary incident could\u2019ve proved deadly if his client had flinched.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is deadly. If Mr. Griffin had made one false move at that time, no doubt he would\u2019ve been fired upon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The attorney said police were out of line when they made the stop and subsequently arrested the client.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey violated my client\u2019s constitutional rights, no doubt about it,\u201d said Vereen.<\/p>\n
Griffin said the incident made him feel targeted.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt just felt like a dream I just couldn\u2019t believe because I didn\u2019t do anything wrong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to the police report, Griffin was stopped for swerving, but he wasn\u2019t ticketed for that. Instead, he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in his car.<\/p>\n
Two other people in the car were also arrested.<\/p>\n
Eventually, all charges were dropped.<\/p>\n
Months later, Vereen said this case isn\u2019t over and plans to take legal action against the City of Hialeah.<\/p>\n
\u201cFalse arrest, excessive force, and violation of his constitutional right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures,\u201d the attorney said. \u201cThey just can\u2019t do what they did, and somebody has to stop them before they go further.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hialeah Police said they will not comment on pending litigation.<\/p>\n
