As our country marks its 250th year, I\u2019ve been thinking about what truly brings communities together. For me, it always comes down to people \u2014 neighbors caring for neighbors. In my role as\u00a0executive director for the\u00a0Southwest Gulf Coast to the Glades Chapter, I get to see that kindness every day through our lifesaving mission, which has been part of our country\u2019s fabric for more than half of those 250 years.<\/p>\n
Every March, we observe Red Cross Month to honor the people who deliver support when help can\u2019t wait. Here in our community, that compassion may be a volunteer comforting a family after a home fire, or a neighbor donating what they can to deliver hope in someone\u2019s darkest hours.<\/p>\n
Collectively, the impact is extraordinary. Last year, Red Cross volunteers and supporters helped\u00a0208 families after 158 local disasters. Behind every number is someone who found relief in a moment of loss or uncertainty.<\/p>\n
This work continues because people choose to take part in whatever way is right for them \u2013 whether it\u2019s making a financial donation, sharing their time, or learning lifesaving skills like CPR and first aid. Every contribution matters because, together, we create a community where compassion has real power.<\/p>\n
