Visitors travel from across the country and world for the exotic catch<\/p>\n
The bucket-list fish can grow up to six feet long and weigh as much as 100 pounds<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not your typical Florida fishing trip, though. There is no boat to step aboard.<\/p>\n
Instead, anglers hop on four-wheelers to reach remote ponds where the fish are biting, creating a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnly place you can go to get them here in the United States without flying all the way to Australia to get one,\u201d said guide Mike Headley.<\/p>\n
Headley leads guests to ponds stocked with exotic fish, giving anglers the rare chance to catch something normally found halfway across the globe.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I can add a couple exotic fish to my resume, I\u2019m not never going to be mad,\u201d said Jaicob Huffman, a fisherman visiting from Kentucky.<\/p>\n
Huffman and his friends made the trip specifically to target barramundi after seeing videos online.<\/p>\n
Known for their aggressive fight and size, the fish offer a unique challenge.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust the species that he has down here, the land Down Under,\u201d Huffman added.<\/p>\n
About an hour into their trip, the group began reeling them in \u2014 one after another \u2014 stopping to snap photos along the way.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve come from England, you know, the UK, they come from Japan and Australia,” Headley said. “I\u2019ve had people come from Australia to come here and fish for them.”<\/p>\n
Barramundi, also known as Asian sea bass, can grow between 60 and 100 pounds and stretch up to 6 feet long.<\/p>\n
The property features nine ponds \u2014 three are stocked with barramundi and others with peacock bass.<\/p>\n
Guides circulate throughout the area, helping anglers with bait, tackle and technique.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s been a decent one cruising here this morning,\u201d Headley said while assisting fishermen.<\/p>\n
While the experience is catch and release, the fish itself is prized worldwide as a premium white fish known for its mild, buttery flavor.<\/p>\n
