After a record-setting warm day in west-central Illinois, forecasters say much of the region now is under a freeze warning.<\/p>\n
The high temperature Thursday in Jacksonville hit 91.8 degrees at 3:55\u00a0p.m. It marked the first time the temperature was higher than 90 degrees in March since about 1907.<\/p>\n
The average high temperature for this time of year is 56 degrees.<\/p>\n
But a reminder of the fickle nature of Illinois seasons returned Friday. Daytime temperatures dropped to the low 40s, and overnight lows in the mid-20s prompted the National Weather Service to issue a freeze warning for much of west-central Illinois.<\/p>\n
The warning from 1 to 9 a.m. Saturday includes\u00a0Brown, Greene, Pike and Scott counties.<\/p>\n
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, according to the weather service, and people should take precautions to protect tender plants.<\/p>\n
More-seasonal temperatures will nudge their way back into the region starting later Saturday, which is forecast to be sunny with a high in the mid-50s.
