JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. \u2014 Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a rollover car crash on Friday, the Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office told media outlets.<\/p>\n
Authorities say the rollover crash occurred just after 2 p.m. not far from where Woods lives in Jupiter Island. According to sheriff John Budensiek, Woods, 50, was driving \u201cat high speeds\u201d and clipped a small trailer being pulled by a pickup truck as he overtook it. Woods\u2019 Land Rover listed and rolled on its side.<\/p>\n
Woods was able to climb out the passenger door. Neither he nor the driver of the pickup truck was injured, according to the Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a small two-lane road. Had there been somebody moving in the opposite direction, we would not be having a conversation saying there was no injuries,\u201d Budensiek said. \u201cThis could have been a lot worse.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sheriff\u2019s Office DUI investigators came to the scene and Woods \u201cdid exemplify signs of impairment,\u201d investigators believing it due to \u201csome kind of medication or drug.\u201d He was placed under arrest and taken to jail.<\/p>\n

Woods consented to a breathalyzer test, which showed he had not been drinking, but declined a urinalysis test. Under Florida law, he was then charged with DUI, plus property damage \u2014 both misdemeanors.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has a right to refuse that test. There is a Florida statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test,\u201d Budensiek said. \u201cWe will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.\u201d<\/p>\n
Woods\u2019 manager at Excel Sports did not immediately respond to a text message seeking information.<\/p>\n
It was the third time Woods has been involved in a car crash, most recently in February 2021<\/a>, when his SUV ran off a coastal road in Los Angeles at a high rate of speed that led to multiple leg and ankle injuries. Woods said later doctors considered amputation.<\/p>\n He also was arrested on a DUI charge<\/a> in 2017 when south Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car that was parked awkwardly with damage to the driver\u2019s side. Woods said later he had taken a bad mix of painkillers.<\/p>\n Woods had been working his way back to golf from a seventh back surgery last September; he played Tuesday night with his Jupiter Links indoor simulator team during the TGL finals, but had not decided whether he could play in the Masters on April 9-12.<\/p>\n His last official tournament was the British Open in 2024<\/a>.
