TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County has declared a countywide burn ban on Friday. <\/p>\n
The announcement comes after the National Weather Service in Tallahassee issued a Red Flag Warning for the area and surrounding counties. <\/p>\n
The burn ban took effect at 5 p.m., according to the county, and remains in place through 5 p.m. on April 3, unless extended or rescinded before that date.<\/p>\n
The Red Flag Warning sites dangerously low humidity and high winds on top of exceptional drought conditions in the region. <\/p>\n

During the ban, all open burning in Leon County is prohibited that is not specifically authorized by the Florida Forest Service, is prohibited. <\/p>\n
That includes burning of yard debris, land-clearing fires, brush piles and similar site-preparation burns, campfires, bonfires, fire pits and other recreational or ceremonial fires, burning of household trash, construction debris or other solid waste and the use of burn barrels or similar devices for out door burning.<\/p>\n
The burn ban does not prohibit the use of grills for cooking as long as they are attended and fully extinguished, indoor fireplaces or wood stoves, and firefighting, emergency or training activities. <\/p>\n
According to Leon County, violations of the temporary burn ban may be subject to fines and other penalities.<\/p>\n
