FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Franklin County\u2019s Sheriff AJ Smith is sending a warning to spring breakers, as they recently arrested a group of college students at a rental home.<\/p>\n
The students are accused of underage drinking, drug use and trashing the beach rental bought by their parents.<\/p>\n
Smith said that kind of behavior is not common in Franklin County but he\u2019s using this as a cautionary tale as tourist season picks up. <\/p>\n

The sheriff also said deputies will be cracking down on illegal parking with a device called the Barnacle that locks onto your windshield until violators pay a $400 fine.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have a lot of day trippers. I want folks to understand that we\u2019re going to be strictly enforcing the traffic laws. If you\u2019re stopped, you\u2019re more than likely to get a ticket because I\u2019ve instructed deputies to write tickets. We want people to slow down. We want them to adhere to the laws and be safe because one traffic fatality or serious injury is too many,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n
The sheriff said deputies will be strictly enforcing traffic laws on Highway 98 and have zero tolerance for impaired drivers.<\/p>\n
