President Trump on Friday evening joked that he surrounds himself \u201cwith losers\u201d because he \u201clike[s] people who listen to my success\u201d in public remarks at a Saudi-backed investment conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Trump was responding to a question at the Future Investment Initiative<\/a> (FII) summit in Miami about leadership skills he believes are missing in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it\u2019s winning, you\u2019ve got to win,\u201d the president told the crowd<\/a>, before adding that there are \u201cmostly losers, fortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI always like to hang around losers actually because it makes me feel better,\u201d he continued. \u201cI hate guys that are very, very successful and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump added later that he was \u201conly kidding, I want to say that \u2014 eh, sort of.\u201d<\/p>\n

He made similar comments<\/a> while on the campaign trail in 2024, telling a crowd of supporters during a rally that does not \u201clike anybody that doesn\u2019t like me\u201d in reference to late-night TV show hosts.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ll be honest, when they don\u2019t like me, I don\u2019t like them. OK?\u201d Trump said at the time. \u201cSounds childish\u2026 That\u2019s the way it is. Call it a personality defect.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked on Friday to expand on which nations he views as \u201cwinners\u201d or \u201closers,\u201d the president said he \u201crespect[s] China greatly\u201d for its economic prowess.<\/p>\n

Trump is scheduled to travel to China in May to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Their original meeting was delayed<\/a> due to the U.S.\u2019s ongoing military operations against Iran.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to have great respect for China for the job they do,\u201d he said. \u201cLike them or not like them, you have to respect them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FII Institute<\/a> was established by Saudi Arabian royal decree in 2017 to promote global economic growth. The organization\u2019s annual conference in Miami this year hosted top business leaders from around the world.<\/p>\n

The president, during his speech at the event, claimed Iran was the \u201cbully no longer<\/a>\u201d after the U.S. and Israel launched joint strikes<\/a> on the country a month ago following failed nuclear deal negotiations. The Middle East conflict continues to rage<\/a>, even as the Trump administration and Tehran officials go back-and-forth<\/a> on potential terms<\/a> to end the strikes.<\/p>\n

Trump told the Miami crowd on Friday that Iran would have had a nuclear weapon<\/a> \u201cwithin two to four weeks\u201d if the U.S. had not \u201cknocked the hell\u201d out of Iran.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey would have used it on you, and on Israel, and on everyone else,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
